About me

Hi!

My name is Katie Wood and I am a senior illustration major graduating from John Brown University. I have a minor in museum studies, and am enrolled in an accelerated business master’s program, which I am set to complete in 2024.

Outside of school and art, my interests include travel, Harry Potter on rainy days, coffee dates, and long walks.

I love finding new music, especially in the folk and alternative rock genres.

My goal as an artist is to be authentically me in every part of my work. Whether I am illustrating whimsical book covers or painting portraits of women I know as deities like the old masters, I want my work to reflect the way I understand the world and my place in it.

I love art history and research, and that study deeply influences my work and my inspiration. I adore the old masters like Leonardo da Vinci and Michelangelo among many others and hope to find new ways of invoking the sense of beauty their work inspires with my own modern twist.

Experimentation also has a firm place in my artistic process. I want to learn as many techniques and mediums as I have access to. I believe that the life of an artist is one of lifelong learning and pursuit of greater skill and taste. I never want to become comfortable in my art practice, but rather to continue pushing myself to improve and grow.
