Senior capstone exhibition
An exhibition shown in January of 2023, my senior capstone is a project through which I explored femininity as portrayed through classical deities such as Aphrodite, Hera and others. I photographed, collaged and painted women who have been influential in my life, involving them in the creative process and depicting them as accurately to themselves as I am able in response to my study of female representation throughout art history.
Inspiration:
I have drawn conceptual inspiration from the Pre-Raphaelite art movement, as well as Maud Sulter’s Zabat series. My biggest stylistic inspiration comes from Kehinde Wiley’s portraiture. I love combining historical and modern art styles to create my own unique imagery and symbolism.

A large part of my gallery concept incorporates photographing my models in clothing and locations representative of the goddesses they chose. I used a film camera I inherited from my grandfather in early 2022. I am glad to have found a way to integrate it into my creative process.

Artworks:
I used this gallery as an opportunity to experiment with different methods of collaging and painting to incorporate my photography and pattern designs into my artworks. My goal is to depict my models as accurately as I can while also referencing their chosen goddesses. Some allusions are more subtle than others, but I feel that makes the portraits as individual as their models.
